Take the frame away and the glass has to be right, because there is nothing left to hide behind. That is the whole job on a frameless enclosure: heavy tempered panels, a few polished hinges, and an opening measured by hand rather than guessed from a catalog. We cut every piece in our own Lodi shop, twelve minutes from Teaneck down Route 4, and set it with our own crew. The in-home measure costs nothing.
Everything on a frameless door comes back to two calls: how thick the glass runs and where the hardware lands. We work in 3/8 and 1/2 inch tempered safety glass, which is heavy enough to stand on its own hinges without a perimeter frame holding it steady. Thicker glass feels more solid and sits flatter, and it changes how the hinges and clips have to be placed. Since the panel carries itself, the hinge points get set off the real opening, not off a stock size that was cut for somebody else's bathroom.
After that it is finish work, and those choices are yours. Standard clear glass carries a faint green edge; low-iron ultra-clear glass takes it out, which shows up most on a big panel or against white tile. An easy-clean coating is available if you would rather the surface shed water than hold spots. Hardware comes in fifteen finishes, so the hinges and handle can match whatever the rest of the room already wears. Fabrication happens on Industrial Road in Lodi, typically one to two weeks after the template, and the install is normally a single visit.
The bathrooms in Teaneck's Tudors and center-hall colonials were framed a long time ago, and a century of settling shows up the moment a level comes out. Walls lean a little. Tile runs slightly off. Both are tempered safety glass and both are correct answers; the difference is heft. Half inch feels more substantial in the hand and holds a very flat plane on a tall panel, which suits a wide door or a big fixed panel. Three-eighths is lighter on the hinges and hardware and works beautifully in a standard opening. We will show you both and say which one your opening wants.
Yes, and more than one unit at a time is a normal request. Two-family houses near Cedar Lane often have similar baths that both need the same treatment, and templating them on one visit keeps the fabrication run together.
