Replace the Shower Door, Keep the Teaneck Tile

Rust creeping along the track. Fog you cannot scrub off. Water finding the floor no matter how carefully you close the door. When a shower door reaches that point, the tile behind it is often still fine, and there is no reason to tear a Teaneck bathroom apart to deal with the one part that gave out. We measure the opening you already have and build new custom glass to drop into it.

How It Goes

Your Grout Stays Right Where It Is

Here is the sequence, start to finish. We come out and measure the existing opening, top to bottom and at more than one point, because the old unit rarely sits in something square. You pick the replacement: a frameless panel, a semi-frameless door, or a bypass slider if the room is tight. The new glass gets cut, edged and drilled in the Lodi shop. On install day the old door and its track come out, the new glass goes in, and the tile and grout around it are left alone. That last part is the whole appeal.

A replacement is not a downgrade in materials. You get the same 3/8 and 1/2 inch tempered safety glass we use on new builds, the same fifteen hardware finishes, and low-iron ultra-clear glass or the easy-clean coating if you want them. Old anchor holes get addressed as part of the swap, and the new hardware is positioned for the door you chose rather than the one that came out. Fabrication usually runs one to two weeks from the measure, and the install is typically a single visit. It is a glass job from start to finish.

  • Measured off the opening the old door left behind
  • Frameless, semi-frameless or bypass, your pick
  • Tile, grout and plumbing stay where they are
  • Same tempered glass and finishes as a new build
  • Old unit out and new glass in on install day

Teaneck Bathrooms

Teaneck Doors That Have Done Their Time

Walk into one of these bathrooms and the tile is usually the last thing that needs attention. The door in front of it is another story. Teaneck filled in early, so a lot of these enclosures have taken decades of hot water, hard scrubbing and slamming. Framed aluminum sliders pit and stain. Bottom tracks hold water and grow mildew in the channel. Glass hazes over in a way no cleaner touches. None of that means the shower is finished. It means the glass and the metal aged out ahead of everything around them. Change those and the room reads new again.

One detail matters more in a house this age than people expect. Whatever the original door measured, the opening around it has shifted since, so we cannot copy dimensions off the unit coming out. We template the space as it stands today, which is why the new glass closes evenly when the old one had stopped doing that. It also means the style can change while we are in there, going from a framed slider to frameless or semi-frameless in the same footprint. The measure happens at your Teaneck house at no cost.

  • Built for early-1900s baths where the opening shifted

Frequently asked questions

In most cases, no. The new glass is built to the opening your tile already forms, so the surround stays untouched. If the tile is cracked or loose right where the hardware has to land, we will flag it at the measure and tell you plainly what we see. Otherwise the swap happens inside the existing footprint and the room goes back together when the install is done.

The quote follows the same things every glass job does: the width and height of the opening, whether you want 3/8 or 1/2 inch glass, the style you move to, and the hardware finish. Going from a framed slider to full frameless is a bigger change than matching what you had. We measure free at your house in Teaneck and put the options in front of you.

Often you can, and it is a common request. What decides it is the opening itself: the width, whether there is a curb, and how much clear floor a hinged panel would need to swing into. If the room cannot spare that floor, a new bypass unit in modern glass is the better move. We will look at the space and give you a straight answer at the measure.

Sometimes, depending on the shape the hardware and framing are in. When they are still sound, a single replacement panel can be built to match what is there. When the frame or track has corroded, changing the whole unit is usually the better value, because new glass in tired metal is a short-term answer. Send Jessica a photo and we will tell you which one you are looking at.

Count on one to two weeks between the measure and the install. The glass is cut and finished in Lodi during that stretch, which is what sets the pace. Install day is normally one visit: old unit out, new glass in, area cleaned up behind us. Since the shop is twelve minutes from Teaneck by way of Route 4, getting on the schedule is rarely the hard part.

Yes. Doing both at once is usually smoother for everyone, since one measure visit covers the whole building and the glass runs together in the shop. Teaneck has a lot of two-family houses near Cedar Lane and the streets around it, and turnover between tenants is a natural window for this work. Tell us your dates and we will fit the install around them.
