Bathtub Shower Doors in Franklin Lakes, Matched to the Room Around Them

In a big house the tub bath is not a closet with a fixture in it. You see the tub from the doorway, across floor space, and whatever is standing over it reads as part of the room. That is the argument for glass here, more than saving inches. We fit bypass sliders or a single fixed screen to the tub you already own, cut to your alcove and finished to match what is already in the room.

Specifying the Glass and the Metal

The Panel Is Half the Decision. The Finish Is the Other Half

Clear tempered glass has a faint green cast to it, which nobody notices until it is set next to white marble or a pale tile and suddenly they do. Ultra clear glass takes the iron out and reads neutral, and in a room where the surfaces are light and the metal is warm it is the glass to use. A protective coating is the other option worth understanding: it does not make the glass self cleaning, it makes minerals sit on the surface instead of biting into it, so a wipe down actually works. Both are decisions we would rather you make holding a sample than reading a description.

Then the metal. Tub hardware is a header, a pair of jambs and a track or a bracket, and it is going to sit a few feet from your faucet, your towel bar and whatever the vanity is wearing. Brushed nickel, matte black, polished chrome and oil rubbed bronze are what we carry, and the one to pick is usually the one already in the room. If the bath was finished years ago and you are not sure what you have, photograph a fixture and send it. Getting this right takes one photograph. Getting it wrong is the thing you notice every morning.

  • Clear or ultra clear glass, chosen against your tile and stone
  • Protective coating explained honestly, not sold as self cleaning
  • Brushed nickel, polished chrome, oil rubbed bronze or matte black
  • Hardware matched to the fixtures already hanging in the bath

The Baths Behind the Primary

A Tub Bath Here Is Still a Room You Walk Into

Franklin Lakes houses usually have several bathrooms, and the ones that kept a tub are typically the guest bath, the kids' wing and whatever sits off a back hall. They are not small rooms. There is floor between the door and the tub, a window, a vanity with some length to it, and a long sightline that ends at the alcove. A curtain closes that view down. A pair of bypass panels or a single fixed screen leaves the tile and the window doing what they were meant to do.

Which of the two you want follows from that. A screen is one fixed panel, no track along the deck, nothing to slide and nothing collecting grit, and it leaves the far end of the tub open, which matters if anyone in the house still takes a bath or bathes a child. Sliders close the opening more completely and are the better answer where the shower gets heavy use and water needs to stay put. Neither one touches the tub, the tile or the plumbing. We supply and install the glass; the tub you already have stays exactly where it is.

  • Fixed screen keeps the far end of the tub open
  • Bypass sliders close the opening where the shower works hardest
  • No demolition, no plumbing, no tile work on our end
  • Measured and installed in guest, kids' and back hall baths

Frequently asked questions

Not usually, and it is a different job. A tub screen or a slider is a shorter panel carrying less of its own weight, so lighter tempered glass is entirely appropriate and behaves well on a track or in a bracket. Where thickness earns its keep is a tall fixed screen with a long free edge, which feels steadier in heavier glass. Whatever goes in is tempered safety glass, edged and finished at our own shop.

Modern bypass hardware is far better than the aluminum channel people remember. Most of what we hang rides a slim top track with guides at the bottom rather than sitting in a deep sill, so there is much less for soap and grit to settle into and what is there wipes out. If a bottom channel is a dealbreaker, say so. That is often the moment people decide on a single fixed screen instead, which has nothing to slide.

The frame or bracket sits on the tub rim, and the joint between metal and tub gets sealed so water on the inside stays on the inside. That seal is the piece that fails on old doors, usually because it was done thin or the tub deck was never cleaned first. We scrape the old work back to a clean surface, set the hardware, and seal it properly. Then leave it alone for a day before running water.

It changes the numbers, not the approach. A deeper rim means the panel starts higher off the floor, so the same overall height gives you a shorter piece of glass, and the reach over the side matters more when you are stepping in. On a deep tub a fixed screen often wins, because you are not fighting a panel to get past it. We measure the rim height along with the width, at both ends, since tubs are rarely level.

Custom glass generally takes about one to two weeks from the day we template to the day it goes in, and a tub door is usually at the shorter end of that because the pieces are smaller. The install itself is normally one visit and a matter of hours. If two or three baths are being done together, they get scheduled as one job so you are not living around us for a month.

Not in town, there is no Accurate showroom in Franklin Lakes. Midland Park is the close one, about twelve minutes out on Greenwood Ave, by appointment only, and what it holds is glass, hardware finishes and samples: brushed nickel and polished chrome next to matte black and oil rubbed bronze, which is the useful part for a tub door. Lodi takes walk-ins, roughly twenty four minutes south, with enclosure displays on the floor.
