Every commercial opening already holds a decision somebody made years ago: a single tempered lite, a laminated one, or a sealed insulated unit, sitting in a frame that may or may not still be square. Whatever replaces it has to answer all of that. So the first move on a Wyckoff storefront, office or entry door is a free on-site measure, where we read the opening instead of guessing at it.

We record thickness, whether the glass is tinted or coated, how the panel is held in the frame, whether the stops sit inside or outside, and the condition of the frame itself, because a frame that has moved will not accept a lite cut to the old numbers. Where a storefront runs several bays, we check whether the neighbors are the same make-up, since matching what sits beside it is usually the entire point. Then the scope and the number come to you in writing.

Usually by the stamp. Tempered glass carries a small etched mark in one corner naming the fabricator and the standard it was made to, often down near the frame where nobody looks. Laminated glass shows a faint line at the edge where the interlayer sits. If the mark is hidden behind a stop or worn away, we work it out on site from the thickness, the edge and where the panel sits in the building.
Several. Obscure or acid-etched glass passes light while blurring whatever is behind it, which suits a room that should feel enclosed but not dark. A frosted band across the middle of a clear partition is the common office answer, since it gives seated privacy and keeps the room bright. Back-painted glass gives you a solid wall panel with no grout lines in it. Any of them can be laid out at the on-site measure.

Our main showroom sits at 80 Industrial Rd in Lodi, twenty minutes or so out, with no appointment needed.
Load, size and how it is held. Commercial lites tend to be larger, they sit in metal framing rather than wood, and thickness climbs with the size of the opening. The bigger difference is what the glass has to survive. An entrance takes carts, deliveries, weather and the occasional impact all day, which is why laminated glass turns up so often at street level, and why the frame gets as much of our attention as the panel.
The panel comes out in one piece where it can and in controlled pieces where it cannot, with the area screened off while that happens. Old sealant and glazing beads come off the frame, the rebate is cleaned back so the new lite seats properly, and the debris leaves on our truck. If the frame is bent or corroded where the glass sits, you hear about it at the measure rather than on install day.
