Check Your AreaThe management office, first, and the condo board if it approves contractors. Ask what they require: buildings commonly set contractor hours, want the service elevator reserved and ask for proof of insurance. We are licensed and insured, so tell us what paperwork the office wants and where it should go. In a rented unit, the owner should approve the work too, since the glass is fastened to the walls.
Often it is, provided the walls can carry the hinges and the door has room to swing. Where the hinges would fasten, the free in-home measure looks for solid backing, since a frameless door puts its whole weight on that wall. Where a swing would hit the vanity or toilet, a sliding door or a semi-frameless layout fits the same opening. Frameless glass is 3/8 or 1/2 inch tempered safety glass; every option is cut and edged in our Lodi shop, then tempered.
Then the enclosure is divided into smaller panels on paper, long before any glass is cut. Tempered glass cannot be trimmed afterward, so the free in-home measure covers the elevator car's inside height, width and depth, plus any stair turns and the unit's entry door. A tall fixed panel that will not fit can become two panels, or a door beside a narrower panel, joined in the bathroom.
Yes: a tub door fastens to the tub's ledge and the walls on each side, so the tub stays as it is. In a narrow apartment bath, a sliding door keeps the floor clear, while a hinged door opens wider where there is room for it to swing. If you rent, get the owner's written approval before the measure, since the door is fastened into the walls.
Yes, when it is sized for the route as well as the wall. We measure the space above the vanity and then the path in: elevator car, hallway turns and the unit door. If one sheet would not make the trip, the mirror is made as two pieces, with the seam placed where you agree at the measure. Our Lodi shop cuts and edges each piece, and our crew hangs it.
We set it with you inside the building's permitted hours, once the glass is ready. After the free in-home measure and your approval of the firm, itemized written quote, the panels are cut and edged in our Lodi shop and sent out for tempering. When they come back, we pick a date and time that fits the building's contractor window and your elevator reservation.
