Glass Railings for Fort Lee Balconies & Stairs

There is a real difference between looking at the Hudson and looking at it through pickets. A glass railing does the job a rail has to do and disappears while doing it. We build frameless panels in tempered safety glass for balconies, decks and interior stairs, mounted on standoffs or set in a base shoe. Getting us out to measure costs nothing.

How a Glass Rail Actually Gets Held Up

Two systems do most of the work. Standoff mounting pins each panel to a stair stringer, a deck rim or a wall with round finish-matched posts, leaving a gap beneath the glass and a very light look. A base shoe is a continuous channel the panel drops into, reading as one clean line along the floor or deck. Both take tempered safety glass. Which one you want depends on what is underneath.

Anchoring is the part nobody sees and the part that matters. Before we quote, we look at what the panels will fasten to, framing, joists, masonry or a concrete balcony slab, because a rail has to meet code and it has to feel solid when someone leans on it. Panel height, whether you want a top cap, and the finish on every post and clip get settled at the measure. Fifteen finishes to choose from.

  • Standoff posts or a continuous base shoe channel
  • Tempered safety glass in every panel we set
  • Anchoring checked against framing, joists, masonry or slab
  • Code-conscious heights and spacing, no guesswork
  • Posts, caps and clips in 15 hardware finishes

The Fort Lee View

A Balcony Rail That Gives You the Bridge and the Skyline

On a Fort Lee balcony the railing decides the view. Up on the Palisades, those terraces face the Hudson, the George Washington Bridge and the Manhattan skyline, and a picket or a solid rail slices all of it into strips, especially from a chair. Glass gives it back, at standing height and sitting height both, without giving up a single thing the rail is there to do.

Two practical notes. Exterior balcony work in a tower normally needs building approval, so start with your management office or board before you get attached to a design; we carry the license and insurance paperwork most boards ask to see. Interior railings are a different story and move faster, whether it is a stair in a townhouse or an open landing in a larger unit, and they open a sightline through the middle of a home the same way.

  • Balcony rails that keep the Hudson and bridge in view
  • Exterior tower work normally needs building approval first
  • Interior stair and landing rails for townhouses and larger units
  • Deck and patio rails for the side-street homes

Fort Lee · Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in Lodi. The showroom is at 80 Industrial Rd, about fifteen minutes from Fort Lee, open Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 4, with the fabrication shop on the same site. Standoffs, base shoe, caps and all fifteen finishes are there to handle. Call or text (201) 460-1313 first. Our Midland Park location, 108 Greenwood Ave, is by appointment about thirty minutes away.

Railings vary too much for a phone number. The quote depends on glass thickness, the run length and panel height, the mounting system, what the panels anchor into, the glass type and the finish on the hardware. A short interior stair and a wrapped balcony are not the same job. You get an itemized quote once we have seen the run, the measure is free, and there are monthly payment options.

The glass side runs about one to two weeks from measure to install, and most runs are set in one visit. The variable is approval. If the rail is on a tower balcony, your building's sign-off comes first and that timeline is theirs, not ours. Interior stair rails skip that step entirely, so they tend to move on the shop schedule alone.

That is their call, and it is worth asking before anything else. Buildings along the ridge handle exterior changes differently, so ask your management office or board what they require and get it in writing. We can give you panel heights, mounting details and our license and insurance paperwork to submit with the request. Once it is approved, we measure and build to what was approved.

The panels are tempered safety glass, the same family we use in shower enclosures, chosen and sized for a rail rather than a wall. Outside, the two things that matter are the anchoring and the hardware, so we check what the posts or shoe fasten into and match finishes that live with weather. Height and spacing are set to code, not to whatever looks about right.

They show more than pickets do, and less than people expect. A quick pass with glass cleaner handles the inside; outside, rain does a fair amount of the work and a hose does the rest. The easy-clean coating we offer helps the surface shed water and spots. If you want the least color in the glass, ask about low-iron ultra-clear panels when we measure.
