Quick answer: Over the past several years, AGM has installed custom frameless shower doors, mirror walls, glass railings and back-painted glass throughout Oakland, NJ. Below is a tour of recent project highlights — what we built, what glass and hardware we chose, and how to start your own project. From our Midland Park showroom on Greenwood Avenue, we're about 14 minutes from Oakland.
Oakland at a Glance for Glass Projects
Oakland is one of the more topographically interesting towns we work in — homes tucked into the Ramapo foothills, lake communities around Crystal Lake and Ramapo Lake, the Ramapo River Reserve, and a healthy mix of mid-century colonials, ranches and newer custom builds along Ramapo Valley Road and beyond. Many Oakland homes are on slopes, which means master baths on multiple levels and uniquely angled framing.
The most common Oakland glass jobs are frameless shower replacements in mid-century master baths (often swapping a tub-shower or older framed door for a clear walk-in), custom mirrors over double vanities, and glass railings on the renovated split-levels and lake-view decks. Distance from Midland Park is about 14 minutes via Franklin Lakes — easy for measures and follow-up.
Recent Shower-Door Highlights in Oakland
Frameless enclosures are our most-requested service in Oakland. Here are three recent installs that show the range — from compact mid-century retrofits to larger spa-style master baths.
Lakeside Mid-Century Master Bath
A 1962 ranch overlooking Crystal Lake had a master-bath renovation that needed a frameless enclosure for a former tub-shower bay. We built a 3/8" clear inline panel with a single inswing door and polished chrome hardware to match the existing fixtures. The bay was deeper than it was wide, so we templated a fixed return panel on the back wall to make the opening feel architectural rather than awkward.
Spa Walk-In Near Ramapo Valley Road
A newer custom home on a wooded lot near Ramapo Valley Road had a full primary-bath remodel with a curbless walk-in shower. We installed 1/2" ultra-clear (low-iron) glass with a fixed inline panel and a pivoting door, finished in brushed nickel. The owners chose a pale travertine inside, so low-iron glass was essential to keep the color reading true. We added a small fixed transom above the door for steam venting.
Hillside Retreat with Steam
A renovated home tucked into the Ramapo foothills called for a steam enclosure in the primary suite. We built a sealed top-panel steam enclosure in 1/2" clear with matte black hardware and a hinged transom for service access to the steam generator. The wall framing was about 1/2" out of plumb over the door height (normal for a 1970s build), and we templated to compensate.

Custom mirrors are our second most-requested category in Oakland — wide vanity mirrors over double sinks, full-wall mirrors in finished basements, and the occasional lake-view-side mirror placement to bounce daylight into a darker hallway.
Wide Vanity Mirror Over a Double Sink
A renovated colonial off Ramapo Valley Road had a new 84" double-vanity that called for a single oversized mirror rather than two separate ones. We fabricated a 80" x 42" mirror with a polished edge, mounted on hidden Z-clips with a 1/2" reveal at the wall. Reads cleaner and more architectural than the typical paired mirrors.
Basement Home-Gym Mirror Wall
A finished walk-out basement near Crystal Lake had a corner home gym that needed a mirror wall. We delivered 8' x 12' as two matched panels with butt-joints, polished edges and J-channel bottom support hidden behind a baseboard return. From the other side of the gym it reads as one panel.

Other Glass Work in Oakland
Two recent Oakland projects worth flagging: a fully outdoor glass deck railing on a renovated split-level with a steep lake-view drop-off (1/2" tempered panels in powder-coated bronze posts, sized for the hillside wind exposure), and a back-painted glass kitchen backsplash in a renovated 1970s colonial — soft warm white, 3/8" tempered, full-height behind the range. If you're considering glass for a deck or balcony, our glass railings page covers code, cost and design details.
Why Oakland Homeowners Choose AGM
Three reasons most Oakland projects end up with us: proximity (Midland Park is about 14 minutes south), 40+ years of local installations (we've worked in homes from the 1920s through brand-new construction across northwest Bergen County), and in-house fabrication (we cut and finish glass in our own shop, install with our own crew, and never subcontract). Free in-home measures are standard for every Oakland project, with no obligation. Most quotes are returned within one business day of the measure.
