Our shop is on Industrial Rd, so a frameless door for a Lodi bathroom gets cut a few minutes from your house. We use heavy tempered glass, keep the metal down to hinges and clips, and template by hand because walls in these older homes almost never run plumb. The measure is free and there's no obligation.
A true frameless enclosure carries its own weight, so the glass has to do the structural work. That means 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch tempered safety glass, hinges and clips instead of a frame, and no aluminum channel running the perimeter to trap water or grow soap scum. It also means every panel is one-off. There's no shelf size that fits your opening, which is exactly why we template on site.
From there it's your call on how it looks. Low-iron glass drops the faint green cast if you want the water and tile to read true. An easy-clean coating helps the surface shed water. Fifteen hardware finishes run from polished chrome to brushed nickel, matte black and oil-rubbed bronze. Once we've templated, fabrication usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks, and we're normally in and out in one visit.
Lodi runs to capes, colonials and two-family homes on tight lots, a lot of them mid-century or older. Those bathrooms were framed decades ago and the buildings have settled since, so the wall next to the tub leans a little and the corner isn't quite square. A stock frameless kit has no answer for that. Templating does: we cut the glass to the opening you actually have, not the one the box assumes.
Being based in town changes the logistics too. The template comes back to a bench on Industrial Rd, the glass is cut and polished here, and the finished panels only travel a few minutes to your door. What moves the number is glass thickness, the size of the opening, whether you go standard clear or low-iron, and which of the fifteen hardware finishes you pick. Figure about 1 to 2 weeks in most cases. We template at the free measure, then the glass gets cut, edged and the hardware prepped, which is the part that takes those weeks. Install is usually a single visit. Because the glass is cut in the Lodi shop instead of ordered in from an outside plant, your job isn't sitting in another company's queue.
Usually the opposite. A framed door puts a band of metal at every edge and chops the room into sections; frameless takes that away, so your eye runs straight through to the back tile wall. In the compact baths common in Lodi's capes and two-families, that's one of the biggest visual gains you can get without moving a wall. We'll flag it at the measure if an inswing would crowd the vanity.
A properly templated one doesn't, in normal use. Water stays in because the panels are cut tight to the opening, the door is hung with the right gap, and the sweeps and seals are set for your particular pitch.
