Quick answer: Tenafly is one of the prettiest of the Northern Valley boroughs — a "suburb for urbanites" of stately center-hall colonials, Gilded-Age Tudors and modern custom builds tucked into wooded, hilly lots. Bathrooms here tend to be on the larger side and the homeowner specs tend to be on the premium side: 1/2-inch low-iron glass is the default, hardware is rarely off-the-shelf, and steam enclosures and double-vanity mirror packages are routine. About 16 minutes from our Lodi shop via Route 4 East and Engle Street.

Tenafly at a Glance for Glass Projects

Tenafly (ZIP 07670) is a wooded, hilly borough of about 15,000 along the Palisades ridge. The housing stock divides roughly into three eras. First, the original Gilded-Age and early-20th-century houses — Tudors, Colonial Revivals and stately center-hall colonials along Engle Street and the streets sloping up toward the Palisades. Second, postwar mid-century moderns and split-levels along the more level central streets. And third, a steady supply of new-construction custom builds — many quite ambitious — replacing older teardowns across town.

Across all three eras, two themes hold: Tenafly homeowners tend to specify low-iron (ultra-clear) glass instead of standard glass because the green tint of standard glass reads wrong against white-marble and warm-toned tile; and they tend to ask for premium hardware finishes — polished nickel, unlacquered brass, matte black and occasionally satin gold — to coordinate with the rest of the build.

Recent Shower-Door Highlights in Tenafly

Three recent installs that illustrate the Tenafly range. Locations are described by general area, not exact addresses.

Spa Enclosure in a 1929 Tudor, Engle Street Area

A 1929 Tudor near Engle Street went through a full primary-bath gut renovation that called for a spa-style enclosure: a 9-foot-wide curbless walk-in with a 36-inch fixed inline panel, a 36-inch swing door, and a long return wall to the wet zone. Built in 1/2-inch low-iron glass — the clarity reads white against the warm-veined Calacatta tile, where standard glass would have read distinctly green. Hardware: polished nickel to echo the home's restored 1920s feel. Two-week fabrication, full-day install.

Modern Curbless Walk-In, Contemporary Custom Build

A 2021 contemporary custom build above Knickerbocker Road had a primary bath with a sculptural curbless wet zone designed by the architect — two long fixed panels acting as splash guards, no door, just a walk-through opening. Both panels in 1/2-inch low-iron glass set with bottom-clamp matte-black fittings tied directly into the polished-concrete floor structure. A hidden linear drain runs the length of the wet zone so the floor pitch reads as flat to the eye.

Steam Enclosure in a Gilded-Age Colonial Revival

A primary suite in a renovated 1908 Colonial Revival called for a full steam-rated enclosure. We built it in 1/2-inch clear with a sealed transom on a magnetic latch, drip rail along the perimeter, and heavy gaskets at every joint. Unlacquered-brass hardware to coordinate with the homeowner's deliberately patinated cabinet pulls. The transom is service-accessible so the steam generator can be reached without dismantling the enclosure — small detail that pays back the first time the unit needs annual maintenance.

Recent Mirror Highlights in Tenafly

Tenafly's larger primary suites tend to drive larger mirror packages than the county average — and the specs trend premium.

Floor-to-Ceiling Dressing-Room Mirror, Modern Custom

A primary-suite dressing room in a modern custom build above Highwood Avenue called for a single floor-to-ceiling mirror running the entire back wall — 9'6" tall by 14' wide. We delivered it as four perfectly aligned panels with hairline butt-joints, polished edges and Z-clip support hidden behind built-in millwork. Standing across the room, it reads as one continuous piece of glass.

Twin Beveled Mirrors with Unlacquered-Brass Channel

A renovated primary bath in a 1924 Tudor had two vanities flanking a tall central window. The owners wanted beveled mirrors but framed in unlacquered brass to coordinate with their hardware (and patina over time). We cut two matching mirrors at 30 by 42 inches, each with a 1-inch polished bevel set inside a custom unlacquered-brass channel surround. Six months in, the brass has the warm patina the owners specifically wanted.

Other Glass Work in Tenafly

Two recent non-shower projects: a frameless interior glass railing on the renovated main stair of a 1916 colonial near Magnolia Avenue (three runs, custom-pierced quarter-sawn oak handrail, brushed-nickel standoffs anchored through original plaster into structural blocking), and a fully outdoor glass deck railing on a contemporary custom build with 1/2-inch tempered panels and powder-coated matte-black posts overlooking the wooded back lot. We've also fabricated a handful of back-painted glass kitchen backsplashes — soft warm white and deep charcoal continue to be the most-requested colors in town.

Why Tenafly Homeowners Choose AGM

Three reasons most Tenafly projects end up with us: scale and material range — our shop fabricates 1/2-inch low-iron panels measured in tens of feet, with premium hardware in stock or custom-ordered to spec; four decades of experience templating both older Bergen County housing stock and modern architect-driven builds; and in-house fabrication — we cut and finish glass in our own shop, install with our own crew, and never subcontract. Free in-home measures are standard. Most quotes return within one business day.
