Quick answer: River Edge earned its "Borough of Homes" nickname honestly — a single square mile of well-kept Colonial Revivals and capes squeezed between the Hackensack River and Van Saun Park. Most homes were built between 1925 and 1955, which means almost every bathroom we measure here is a primary-bath remodel where the framing is a little out of plumb and the original tile is half a century old. About 9 minutes from our Lodi shop via Hackensack Avenue — one of the shortest drives of any Bergen County town we serve.

River Edge at a Glance for Glass Projects

River Edge (ZIP 07661) is small — roughly 11,000 residents in just over a square mile — but its tightly built housing stock keeps us busy. The streets east of Kinderkamack Road run heavily to 1920s and 1930s Colonial Revivals. West of the tracks toward the river you'll find more capes, ranches and modest postwar colonials from the late 1940s. A scattering of split-levels appears along Continental Avenue. Bathrooms range from compact 5-by-7 hall baths in the capes to larger primary baths added during the 1980s and 1990s expansions on the colonials.

Because almost every project here is a renovation rather than a new build, the bulk of our work in town is frameless replacement enclosures (often dropped into an existing tile shell), custom vanity mirror upgrades, and the occasional glass railing on a renovated interior stair.

Recent Shower-Door Highlights in River Edge

Three recent installs that illustrate the range of River Edge work. Locations are described by general area, not exact addresses.

Frameless Inline in a 1929 Colonial Revival

A homeowner near Howland Avenue had inherited a tired framed slider in the primary bath of a 1929 Colonial Revival. The original 3-by-3-inch white tile and a built-in soap niche were both in beautiful condition, so the tile stayed. We templated the existing 56-inch opening, replaced only the door package with a frameless inline — a 26-inch fixed panel and a 30-inch swing door, both 3/8-inch clear glass — and finished it with brushed-nickel hardware. The bathroom reads as a quiet 1929 jewel rather than a 1990s update. Two-week turn from measure to install.

Walk-In Curbless in a Late-Cape Primary Suite

A late-cape near Continental Avenue had been opened up into a true primary suite during a 2024 renovation. The new layout called for a curbless walk-in: a 60-inch fixed inline panel and a single pivot door, all in 1/2-inch low-iron glass to keep the new white-marble tile reading true. Matte-black hardware to match the new vanity pulls. Because the cape was built in 1949, we templated for about 3/8 inch of out-of-plumb across the door height — the panel was cut accordingly so the door hangs perfectly square.

Neo-Angle in a Compact Hall Bath

A 1934 colonial near Van Saun Park had a tight hall bath where the previous framed pivot door scraped the toilet on every swing. We replaced it with a frameless neo-angle enclosure — two fixed return panels at 45 degrees and a single inswing door, all 3/8-inch tempered glass with polished-chrome hardware. The room visually doubled and the homeowner got back about six inches of usable door clearance.

Recent Mirror Highlights in River Edge

Custom mirrors are our second most-requested category in 07661 — usually paired with a master-bath remodel or a vanity refresh.

Twin Beveled Vanity Mirrors, Renovated Colonial

A renovated 1932 colonial near Bogert Road had a new primary bath with two undermount sinks and a single sconce centered between them. We cut two matching beveled mirrors at 28 inches wide by 38 inches tall, each with a 1-inch polished bevel, and hung them on hidden cleat-and-clip mounts. The pair looks deliberately specified — not like two off-the-shelf mirrors hung side by side.

Full-Wall Mirror in a Cape Conversion

A homeowner converted a small bedroom in a 1948 cape into a dressing room. We delivered a single full-wall mirror, 56 inches wide by 78 inches tall in 1/4-inch silvered glass, set with mirror mastic and J-channel anchors at top and bottom. The dressing room now reads twice as deep as it actually is.

For mirror specs, edge profiles and the full process, see our custom mirrors page and the custom mirror wall guide.

Other Glass Work in River Edge

Two recent non-shower jobs worth mentioning: a frameless interior glass railing on the open-tread main stair of a renovated 1955 split-level (single run, brushed-stainless standoffs, custom-pierced oak handrail), and a back-painted glass kitchen backsplash in soft warm white behind a 36-inch range in a renovated colonial kitchen. Both highlight how a small amount of custom glass in the right spot can completely shift the read of an older home.

Why River Edge Homeowners Choose AGM

Three reasons most River Edge projects end up with us: proximity (about 9 minutes from our Lodi shop via Hackensack Avenue — one of the shortest drives we offer), 40+ years of experience templating older Bergen County colonials and capes (we know how 1930s framing behaves and how to keep frameless glass tight against tile that wasn't laid yesterday), and in-house fabrication (we cut and finish glass in our own shop, install with our own crew, and never subcontract). Free in-home measures are standard. Most quotes return within one business day.
